Performed in Hungarian.
Molière's Tartuffe picks the well-to-do Orgon as his victim. Cloaked in religious faith, Tartuffe gets Orgon to sign over his entire fortune to him, to disown his son Damis, and to want to marry his daughter Mariane to him rather than to Valère, the girl's love. But Tartuffe also wants to win Orgon's wife. That will be his downfall. By then, however, the family has fallen apart, the fortune is lost, and if the wise and kind-hearted King did not intervene, everything would stay that way.
The performance focuses on the young people who cannot, dare not, or have never learned to stand up for themselves. Or perhaps their parents never taught them how. Our theatre-in-education performance offers the opportunity to discuss this question from both points of view.
