“Isn’t it time you gave a proper organ concert at Müpa?" asked László Fassang’s friends and family more and more often recently. Though most of the concerts that the artistic director of the organ concerts at the Palace of Arts gives in Europe and overseas are classic solo recitals, the Hungarian audience has not had an opportunity to hear the Prima Prize laureate teacher of the Academy of Music in this capacity for years.

The programme offers a beautiful cross section of the organ literature, with works from several centuries that László Fassang considers the most important. His choices have to do as much with personal partialities as with the fact that the compositions are related in a manner that allows the creation of a broad arch from pieces that were written at times very far from each other. Mr Fassang is convinced that one of the purposes of the organ at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall is to popularize the instrument. Now the audience may also suggest a work to be performed, and the one receiving the most votes can be heard at the concert. Though he is truly versatile, it is not to flaunt his erudition that the artist invites the audience to vote in a piece, but wants to encourage his listeners to take a look at the literature of the instrument. He is also curious to see what the most popular piece turns out to be.

The programme of this concert comprises masterpieces for the organ that were revolutionary at the time of writing and are classics now: the pieces of J. S. Bach, Grigny, Frescobaldi, C. Franck, Liszt, Duruflé, Messiaen and Florentz, as well as a work chosen by the audience.
