Mini Matinée
A Marica Production: Frost Flower
Winter fairy tale production with poems set to music

Who would dare to suggest that winter is monotonous and boring, a time of greyness and silence? Anyone visiting the Marica Puppet Theatre will immediately discover that fixing their attention steadily on the frozen and frost-covered window is certain to yield a miracle. Let us join together in enchanting the everyday objects that surround us, which transformed by expert fingers obediently go on to acquire a brand new function. And so in the end, together with Marica Tárnok, we will nod and say, "Well then, here anything can serve as a puppet in any fashion at all...”

The invisible helper concealed in the background of this production titled Frost Flower is the poet Sándor Kányádi, who stole his way into the hearts of generations of readers with his fairy tales and children's verses. He both understood and spoke the language of children, and this joint production by Marica Tárnok and Mari Sz. Nagy assembles a spectacular, and not even so cold, bouquet of the author's frost flowers. The reasons for the harmony between the poet and the performers requires little explanation: all of them progress from the simple to the complex, allowing the viewer or reader time to recognise how much wonder there is in the world around them. The uniquely complementary and long-standing partnership of the duo on the stage has been a guarantee of success for many years. What makes their puppet theatre so special is the way that they make the most ordinary of objects take on surprising features, revealing a completely new face to both the youngest visitors and their parents. Gloves transform into wolves and sparrows, while scissors become rockets, crowns and even ballerinas, with handkerchiefs, scarves and lace tablecloths also coming to life. Inspecting the windows covered with lacy webs of frost, we can't decide when we are outside and when we are inside... Either way, eventually the window becomes the protagonist, and we will even witness Csikorgó the ice king himself pop in to appear among us.
