It was many years ago that the Pannon Philharmonic decided that the Valentine’s Day holiday and the grand tradition it spawned across the Atlantic deserves a place in the concert hall. The raves each show earned from the audience convinced the orchestra that presenting symphonic arrangements of songs by the biggest stars in the world is a real winner: quality popular music turbocharged with symphonic energy offers a euphoric experience for the performers and listeners alike, like that of feverish love. Iván Fischer was requested by the Berlin Konzerthaus to compose an opera for children based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s world-famous picture book, The Gruffalo. The humorous opera now premieres in Hungary in translation by Ádám Nádasdy. The production is recommended for children between the ages of 3 and 10.
