Performed in Hungarian.
A shocking story that explores important themes and raises many questions:
– Beyond individual responsibility, what is the responsibility of the environment, the family, society?
– What causes the kind of craving for stimulation that drives them into dangerous and risky situations?
– Where does the inner emptiness come from that they try to fill this way?
– And then there is the question of accountability. From when, and to what extent, are we responsible for our actions? The play balances on exactly the line where it is very hard to decide whether we are talking about children playing or about young people who can be held to account.
This play does not offer easy answers and does not judge – it invites us to think. And that is its greatest strength. As spectators we can follow the children's lostness, fears and guilt with empathy.
The characters are flesh-and-blood teenagers, boys we know. Who could even be us. How many times have we heard or said ourselves: "it's a miracle I survived my teenage years". What was the moment or thought that stopped us from crossing that very thin line?
Our aim is not only to perform a high-quality production for young people, but to get the young people in the audience to start thinking and asking questions because of the story – of themselves, of teachers, of parents, of their peers. If even a single young person makes a conscious decision in a dangerous situation – "no, I won't do this, because I've seen what can happen" – then we have achieved what this theatre can give most: dialogue, awareness, prevention.
The pace of the play is fast, cinematic and rhythmic – which is especially important to hold the attention of today's young audience throughout. Two actors bring all the characters to life in alternating scenes, with dynamic switches, outstanding concentration and presence. The form also serves to make the content hit even harder: directly, personally, without beating around the bush.
This performance is not only good, it is important. It serves a cause we cannot ignore. It has a social role – in prevention, raising awareness and developing empathy.
