1850. február 24-én született Jászai Mari, a magyar színjátszás felejthetetlen tragikája. Az utókor sajnos már nem gyönyörködhet megrendítő alakításaiban, de a ránk hagyott írásai és a róla írt tanulmányok lehetővé teszik, hogy megidézzük alakját, küzdelmeit, melyeket elsősorban önmagával vívott. Ez a monodráma is önmaga keresését állítja a középpontba.
