József Katona – Borbála Szabó: The Viceroy (Bánk)
The Viceroy (Bánk) is a hungarian national play and a compulsory reading for students – means that it’s uninteresting and incomprehensible. But there’s something in this play what occupies the posterity’s attention.
Altough the story takes place in the 13th century, it’s conflicts may seem familiar to the spectators of our age: On one hand there are homeland and power plays, on the other love, jealousy and family. The play’s archaic text was translated into contemporary language by Borbála Szabó.
Co-production of Kabóca Puppet Theatre (Veszprém), Csiky Gergely Hungarian National Theatre (Timișoara) and Petőfi Theatre (Veszprém).
