MINI MATINÉE
Prince Argyllus - A BonBon Matinée production

Everybody should know the classic Hungarian story of Prince Argyllus. Of course, most kids are familiar with the adventures that this refined lad goes through in his effort to reach Ilona Tündérszép, but we can be reasonably sure that even they will be surprised by the approach taken by BonBon Matinée. The classical music interludes and Uncle Győző's witty explanations provide a brand new slant on this Hungarian fairy-tale. And by the end, not only Argyllus but the audience too will be basking in happiness.

The story of Prince Argyllus and Ilona Tündérszép is one of the shining lights from the veritable treasure trove of Hungarian fairy-tales. Albert Gyergyai's text for this charming story was found inside a book cover. The work encompasses a wide variety of influences, echoing the popular motifs of universal and Hungarian folk tales, as well as Italian humanist poetry. By night, the precious fruits of the ripening golden apple tree are stolen by invisible hands, and the soldiers sent to guard the tree fail in their task. Except for Argyllus, who - thanks to the intrigues of the wicked witch - only meets Ilona Tündérszép for a short time, but still spends the rest of his life looking for her. The Air Corde Trio and BonBon Matinée retell the story in a way that has never been heard before. Gergely Matuz on the flute, Sándor Szilvágyi on guitar and István Lukácsházi on the double bass will perform Baroque pieces from Bach, Händel and Vivaldi, complemented by Győző Lukácsházi's accompanying explanations, tailored especially for children.
